Freiberg narrowly misses out on a podium place - 1st Saxon University Roundnet Cup in Freiberg 2026

At the first Saxon University Roundnet Cup, organised by the Landeskonferenz Hochschulsport Sachsen e.V. in collaboration with the University Sports Centre at TU Bergakademie Freiberg, the team ‘Spikolicous’ (TU Dresden) secured the title. In second and third place were the teams ‘Die Knäbler’ (HTW Dresden/HTWK Leipzig) and ‘Trabanditen’ (TU Dresden).

The tournament, which took place on Saturday 20 June 2026 from 11 AM to 4 PM during best weather at the Glückauf Stadium in Freiberg, marked the first time this competition had been held in this format and provided ideal conditions for the participating teams. The tournament was played in two groups of five teams each, with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the knockout stage.

The semi-finals featured a Freiberg team, ‘The Networker’, which held its own against a strong field of competitors. After intense matches under the Freiberg sun and a brief rain shower during the lunch break, the teams ‘Spikolicous’ and ‘Die Knäbler’ eventually prevailed and contested a top-class final. In this thrilling final, the team from TU Dresden came out on top and took home the victory.
