SHM in blitz chess in Freiberg produces TUBAF university champion

An exciting open blitz chess tournament on Sunday, 2 November 2025, in Freiberg not only crowned an overall winner, but also named the new Saxon university champion in blitz chess. The tournament, organised by the university sports group of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, attracted a total of 24 participants, including ten university members from Chemnitz, Dresden, Leipzig and Freiberg, as well as three promising young players in the U14 age group.
Lazaro Garcia del Real Arte brings victory to Freiberg After 13 hard-fought rounds in the Swiss system, Lazaro G. from the Freiberg university sports group prevailed and secured overall victory and, at the same time, the title of Saxon University Blitz Chess Champion 2025.
Compliance with FIDE rules was confidently monitored throughout the tournament (3 minutes + 2 seconds increment per move) by experienced FIDE arbiter Burkhard Atze.
High level of fairness and prominent visitors The atmosphere in the tournament hall was excellent. Particularly noteworthy was the exceptional fairness of the participants: despite the fast pace and intense battles on the board, there were no disputes whatsoever.
Among the attentive spectators was the newly elected mayor-elect of Freiberg, Phillip Preißler, who paid tribute to the royal game and the sporting spirit of the participants.
