Following last year's successful premiere, the 2025 Saxon University Cross Country Championships were once again held as part of the annual autumn cross country race in Großwaltersdorf. The local ski club, Skiverein 1953 e.V., hosted the event for the 55th time last Sunday. 214 sports enthusiasts aged between 3 and 73 took to the various courses in perfect running weather. Two female runners and one male runner from the TU Bergakademie Freiberg competed in the SHM cross-country classification over 11 km. As in the previous year, Ivonne Uhlig won the title of Saxon University Champion with a time of 1:03:23, while Birgit Gaitzsch came fourth.

Jonas Hünersen came second in the university rankings, crossing the finish line after just 41:33 minutes. TU Bergakademie Freiberg also secured first place in the team rankings, as no other teams from Saxony's universities had registered for the event.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank SV Großwaltersdorf 1953 e.V. for this very well-organised running event. Finally, I would like to repeat last year's outlook: anyone can run, regardless of age. Just get started and take advantage of the sports courses at our university. Then maybe next year there will be more than three starters for TU Bergakademie when the SHM cross-country race is held again.
